July 7: Meet the New Board Edition

What's happening in and around Massapequa.

It's Thursday and it will be the beginning of a new era for the Massapequa School District. 

The Board of Education will have a new look when they hold their reorganizational meeting tonight and they'll elect a new president.

Thursday will also be a big day for "stories" on books and film. We're here to tell you all about it.

Here's what you need to know today:

  • Board of Education: The Massapequa School Board of Education will hold their reorganization meeting at 8 p.m. at the . New member Gary Bennett will be sworn in and a new president will be chosen. After the reorganization meeting, a regular meeting will be held beginning at approximately 8:45 p.m.
  • Toy Story: If you've ever wanted to know the real story about Barbie and Ken, here's your chance. The will be showing "Toy Story 3" as part of its teen movie night program at 6:30 p.m. in the children's room.
  • Real Stories: For more traditional story telling, Central Avenue has their regular children's Story Time program at 10:30 a.m.  It's for ages 3 and up.
  • Movie Day: There will also be movies at the on Thursday with two showings of "Country Strong." It features Gwyneth Paltrow singing and Tim McGraw acting. Show times are 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.
  • Blue Parrot: Randy Jackson brings his acoustic show to the Thursday night. It gets underway at 9 p.m.
