Man Fights Off Attempted Mugging in Massapequa Park

Two Bronx men arrested after Saturday morning incident.

A man fought off two would-be muggers who were later busted Saturday morning in Massapequa Park, police said.

The incident happened at 1:35 a.m. when the 20-year-old victim was walking near the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Monroe Street.

He was approached by Kenneth Hutchinson and Anthony Raia, both 19, who demanded money from the victim, cops said.

When he refused, Hutchinson and Raia allegedly attacked him, but the victim fought back and the pair ran off with no money.

Nobody was hurt. The victim called cops, and the two men, who both live in the Bronx, were picked up a short time later on Sunrise Highway.

They were charged with attempted robbery and Raia was charged with possession of a controlled substance after he was found carrying the drug Alprozolam without a prescription, police said.

Alprozolam, also known as Xanax, is an anti-anxiety drug.
