Massapequa Chamber of Commerce Installs Board and Officers

Phyllis Doria to serve second term as chamber president.

Phyllis Doria joked that she wanted to serve another term as president of the Massapequa Park Chamber of Commerce because, "It takes me a year to get it right."

She's going to get that chance.

Doria and other Chamber board members and officers were sworn in at the group's installation luncheon at Stuart Thomas Manor in Farmingdale recently.

"We really had a smooth year," Doria said in thanking supporters after being sworn in by Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto.

She will be joined by First Vice President Patricia Orzano; Second Vice President Wally D'Amato; and Third Vice President Fran Libretto-Ward.

Venditto praised the Chamber telling members, "We always go around telling everybody what a great place, Massapequa and the Town of Oyster Bay is is to live and raise a family and foremost among the reasons why is because of the hard work you do."

Doria said she was proud of the job the Chamber did during her first term particularly the re-dedication of Klestinec Park, and their community festival on Sunrise Highway.

Doria said she believes next year's festival will be moved to a different location.

She says there are other projects being developed, but that the Chamber's mission remains the same.

"We want to help the businesses of Masapequa and make them nicer for residents," she said.

Doria said that while several businesses have opened doors in the area in recent years, others have closed.

She feels the local businesses still aren't running on all cylinders in the current economy.

"They're having a tough time, and if we can do anything for them, we'd like to hear from them."

One thing the Chamber is planning is a business expo that will allow local workers to network and share ideas.

"We want our Chamber members to know, we're here to help, she said."
