The board also announced that the Deus bail-out system was recently delivered to the department. The board approved payment of all of the Deus gear they received.

This is a last-resort piece of emergency equipment that will fit into every firefigther’s pocket. It basically allows them to repel safely from the second-story of a building, according to Vice-Chairman Denis Mollow.

Dates have been agreed upon by the board for renovations for some of the firehouses. Repairs to a section of the East End firehouse’s second-story floor will begin on Monday, April 11. The room will most likely be off limits for about 10 days.

The West End firehouse will be getting new lighting installed, commissioner Michael Mazzola explained, on Wednesday, March 16, and should be finished the same day.

The purchase of a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 was also approved by the board, which will replace an old pickup truck that belongs to the department, Mollow said.

Discussions for the districts phone system lease were requested to be held until the Executive Session after the board meeting by Mazzola.

The board also announced that it will have some district members attending the 2011 Fire-Rescue Med Conference, which begins on May 10 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Massapequa Fire District will hold its next board meeting on Monday, March 28 at 8 p.m.
