From police precincts to Planned Parenthood, there was a lot to talk about in Massapequa this past week. There also a troubling arrest and we met our share of "super" people," and we weren't just talking football.
Here's a look back:
Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano announced a plan to make a major reorganizarion of police precincts on Monday. Under the plan the Seventh Precinct will stay open while the Eighth Precinct, will be one of four precincts to become community policing centers.
It was also a week that could have brought change to Planned Parenthood facilities including one in Massapequa. Early this week the breast cancer prevention oorganization Susan G. Komen for the Cure , announced they were going to cut funding to Planned parenthood. But after intense negative reaction aimed at the decision, Komen reversed course on Friday and reinstated funding.
It was a difficult week for a Massapequa mother who was arrested in Huntington Thursday, for leaving her 18-month-old daughter unattended in a car in Huntington Station.
While there were controversies and crime in the news, a lot of people had Super Bowl XLVI on the mind. With the Giants looking to win the NFL's big game a lot of fans who are doing everything they can to push Big Blue to a win. We met a pair of sisters who were headed to Indianapolis decked out in the ultimate Giants outfit.
But for our money, we met some trully super people this week when we spent time with Gary Zaccaro of Ambassador Home Improvement who is building a basement for leukemia patient John Sopack who needs it to recuperate from a bone marrow transplant. Zaccaro is paying the $30,000 for the basement out of his own pocket.
