Will the new Massapequa station platform be covered end-to-end as it is now? If it will only be…Read More partially covered, like Seaford station, there are going to be a lot of cold, wet, unhappy commuters.

Mr. Coyote, The design plans only call for a canopy over certain parts of the station platform, like…Read More almost all of the other stations along the branch. The canopies will be primarily over the staircases, elevator, waiting room, and one other small section on the middle section of the platform between the elevator and east escalator.

If you were so offended by it you could have always walked up to them and read them the riot act…Read More yourself. Some things aren't really worth calling the cops over and are best handled yourself. And a few kids smoking weed in a park is in my opinion one of them.

Hi MeeMara, The exit interview was bizarre and tasteless but.....thank you!

Kristen, I agree that stephan is an arrogant SOB and added nothing to CA, but I disagree with you…Read More on two points 1) Using his brother Alex'es wallet to win a task would have been tacky. Alex probably wants nothing to do with his brother's shenanigans anyway. I really dislike the tasks that are all about who has the richest friends. 2) I think, as much as I love and was pulling for Gary, he should have been fired. He was the project manager. I believe Trump kept him because of the sympathy vote (the ratings).... oh and the other video was better

Hi Mel,
The major thing is that the show raises money for charity. They are on the show because…Read More of their celebrity and what that can bring so I don't think its tacky getting a donation from his brother who probably supports many charitable causes. Stephen held back because he wanted it to go to HIS charity. He may not be the same drawer that Trace Adkins is but he didn't even try and that is really my complaint with him. Yes, they all want to win but he was slimy in every way imaginable.
As far as him or Gary. I could understand the thought that it should have been Gary but Stephen took over the task and was the first one to grab credit. I have no problem with him taking the blame and getting fired. Trace did have a good video but it lost it for me with the caveman.

Hello Rabbi Huberman, Usually I give up TMZ for Lent, but then go back to it as it can be amusing…Read More at times. I don't even know who they are talking about, for example:. Ashley Tisdale.(?) Anyway, calling somebody a "rising nobody" is funny for a second but basically its just snark, or as you call it "dreque". You inspired me to give it up completely, forever. Thank you. Ann

Hi Mel,
We discussed Omarosa very briefly but it was nothing worth putting in. La Toya was…Read More genuinely nice and, in my opinion, is much bigger than a petty incident with Omarosa. I was not told anything was off limits but also felt that she was was being very generous with her time. Why be ugly about it. I liked the message La Toya was sending about moving forward in life and being positive. Why roll in the gutter. Its not who I am.

Very interesting. is it true there was a hotel on the dune on the east side of Zach's Bay?
George Kirchmann April 27, 2013 at 10:50 pm
There was a hotel and several houses on the east side of Zach's Bay from 1911 to 1940. The area was…Read More called High Hill Beach and was a summer community that attracted several hundred temporary residents. Access was by ferry until the Wantagh Parkway was completed and Jones Beach opened in 1928. The population dwindled through the 30s and the community closed in 1940. Several houses were moved to the Gilgo Beach community, were remodeled and expanded, and exist there today.

Great article Allison and it really does speak to the love and devotion that you and your family…Read More have for Pepper. Truth be told, it DOES take tremendous amounts of time, energy and patience to train a dog - it's not a case of add water and watch it grow. Sure you can have a dog that is unruly, behaves poorly and is destructive but who wants that? Like children, they need to be taught right from wrong, what is acceptable behavior and what is not and all this take time and patience…but most of all LOVE and the commitment to make it happen. Thank you for adopting Pepper (aka Princess) and for making her one of your family and for writing an article that speaks the truth.

Thanks for this article. There was a NYT op-ed on the subject of animal treatment published Monday:…Read More http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/09/opinion/open-the-slaughterhouses.html?_r=1&. Could how we treat "food animals," maybe the most rights-deprived sentient members of our society, relate to our sense of compassion, or lack of it, in other arenas?
Rabbi Irwin Huberman April 10, 2013 at 02:34 pm
The simple answer to your question is "the Bible says so." Leviticus 11:21 notes "you…Read More may eat all the winged swarmy things that will walk on all fours; all that have above their feet jointed legs to leap with on the ground" This includes bald locust, crickets and all varieties of grasshoppers.
As "counter intuitive" as this may appear to us living in the United States, especially during times of famine it was important set boundaries with regard to what people could consume. After all, Kosher actually means "fit" to eat. Although the Bible is vague on why it distinguishes between different types of insects, I am guessing that the law seeks to divide insects which spend all their time walking in the earth and dust, and those who were able to jump or fly.
It is interesting to note that last month, just prior to Passover, a rare infestation of locust occurred in the Middle East. The attached link documents the "invasion" and notes that this set off a fad of locust eating in various many countries.
http://news.yahoo.com/bible-comes-life-locusts-swarm-israel-190310435.html
Consuming locust may seem odd to us, but based on some of the fast foods or other items which we consume on the fly in North America, who are we to judge?
Thank you for the question.

Interesting article. It reinforces the point of the blog which stresses the importance of ensuring…Read More that animal rights, labor laws and environmental respected when we slaughter and prepare our food. It's also interesting to note that the Noahide law of respecting animal rights appears in the Torah many generations before the laws of Kashrut.

Kristen do you really believe what you are writing? I know the producer is your friend, but come on,…Read More the pretentiousness gets worse each episode! I was pleased that Penn didnt kiss Eric, the wierdo's ass and Melonia seems freakishly plastic and about as down to earth as the top of Trump tower! Caviar skin care? Really? I know, why am I still watching it if it is so bad, lol
Kristen Ferrari April 9, 2013 at 09:05 pm
Hi Mel!! I am being completely honest when I say that I am a rabid fan of the show. Rabid! I love…Read More The Donald! And while I do understand some of the criticism aimed at Dennis this season, I found him refreshing. I wasn't a Dennis fan before this season but I loved watching him stand up to Omarosa. The only two who did that were him and Lil Jon. I also loved when he asked Melania to go see what she really uses. I thought that was classic!
What I write here is completely honest and is not a reflection in any way on any friendship though yes, I do adore the producer. Again, not kidding when I write that I think he puts together a genius cast.
