Five Ways to Celebrate the Fourth

Declare your independence by doing what you choose this holiday weekend!

The Fourth of July – Independence Day – weekend is here! It’s the national day of the United States and celebrates our Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1776. There are so many possible ways to celebrate…

1) The Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre at Eisenhower Park will host a concert with Bon Jovi Tribute Band “Slippery When Wet” and a fabulous Grucci fireworks show Saturday night, July 2nd. Bring your own blankets or chairs. For more info, visit www.nassaucountyny.gov or call 516-572-0355.

2) On Monday, the Old Bethpage Village Restoration will present an old-fashioned re-creation of a Long Island July 4th celebration. It will include brass band concerts, military drills, patriotic speeches, kid’s games and old time baseball, which starts at noon. The recreated mid-19th century village is located at 1303 Round Swamp Road (Exit 48 – LIE) in Old Bethpage. The village is open from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for children 5 – 12, and seniors. Kids under five are admitted free.

3) If you’re looking for a fitting day trip, why not go see Lady Liberty? The statue, given to the U.S. over a century ago by the French, symbolizes freedom and democracy and this international friendship. All the info you need to plan a visit to Liberty Island and the Statue of Liberty can be found at www.statueofliberty.org or by calling Visitor Information at (212) 363-3200.

4) Bethpage State Park is always a good destination for people looking to use the park's picnic facilities, playing fields, tennis courts, golf courses and driving range, bridle, hiking and biking trails, and bar and restaurant. For more information, call 516-249-0700.
