FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

Here is a Pirate program, a Valentine cooking class, a Tot Shabbat, a family bingo and a family Valentine event -- pick and choose from this week’s array of events.

Children’s Program at Massapequa Public Library – David Engel’s Pirate School

Where/When:  ,  Bar Harbor Branch 40 Harbor Lane, Massapequa, NY.  Feb. 13, 2011, 2p.m.

Why Go:  This program through Town of Oyster Bay Department of Community & Youth Services is called Children’s Magical Music & More. Bumbling pirate Billy Bones teaches zany, well-crafted lessons on how to stand, talk, laugh, eat and sing like boisterous buccaneers. Youngsters learn to be "Good Pirates" and are awarded a diploma at graduation. This clever and wacky performer has captured the hearts and minds of young audiences everywhere, combining magic, original music, bubble play and puppetry with eccentric props and slapstick antics.  For ages 4 and older.

Pricing:   Free

Children’s Cooking Program at : Valentine Bliss

Where/When:  Kitchen Times Party Place, 691 Broadway, Massapequa, NY.  Feb. 10, 2011, 4p.m.-6p.m.

Why Go:  Make heart shaped pizzas and Valentine dessert with magic chocolate bars, chocolate marshmallows, lollis and crunch bars as “take home treats”.  Call to register.

Pricing:  $40 per child

Tot Shabbat Services at Temple B’nai Torah

Where/When: Temple B’nai Torah, 2900 Jerusalem Ave., Wantagh, NY.  Feb. 11, 2011, 5:30p.m.

Why Go:  Rabbi Marci Bellows, Cantor Steven Sher, and Mrs. Emily Altman present a brand new Tot Shabbat Celebration.  It consists of singing, dancing, storytelling, and fun.  Parents, grandparents, and siblings are invited to this special Early Childhood Shabbat experience.  Held on the second Friday night of every month.

Pricing: Free

Family Bingo at Temple B’nai Torah

Where/When:  Temple B’nai Torah, 2900 Jerusalem Ave., Wantagh, NY.  Feb. 13, 2011, 12p.m.

Why Go:  Play bingo.  You can purchase food, drink and snack.  All children will win prizes and enjoy the time with family and friends.

Pricing:  Admission is $4 and each additional board is $1.  No charge for non-playing adults.

Free Family Event at Michael’s – Make a Valentine’s Day Card

Where/When:  Michael's, 5500 Sunrise Highway, Massapequa, NY.  Feb. 13, 2011, 1p.m.-3p.m.

Why Go:  Craft custom greetings for the special people in your life.  While supplies last.  Ages 3 and up welcome.
