Jones Beach Park Named Endangered Cultural Landscape

The Cultural Landscape Foundation places the Wantagh beachfront park on an endangered spaces list.

A national preservation group has deemed Jones Beach State Park an endangered cultural landscape.

According to Newsday:

"Over the years, funding shortages, deferred maintenance, and a lack of comprehensive preservation planning for the site has led to an incremental yet significant loss of integrity," according to the annual listing by Washington, D.C.-based The Cultural Landscape Foundation.

The group first started researching this landslide list in 2003.
