Massapequa was covered with a blanket of snow as residents woke up Wednesday to more than a foot of the white stuff.
Massapequa received 12.1 inches, the highest reading in Nassau County so far, according to the National Weather Service, while North Massapequa had 10.7 inches as of 9 p.m. Tuesday. Merrick saw 11. 1 inches and Wantagh 9.2 inches on Tuesday night,
In Suffolk County, North Babylon and Selden each saw 14.5 inches.

Frigid temps will continue through Thursday, according to Tim Morrin, meteorologist with the National Weather Service office at Upton.
On Wednesday morning, temperatures hovered around seven degrees, with a wind chill index of minus 14. Highs on Wednesday are expected to reach 15 degrees and Wednesday night, expecting a low of one degree above zero with wind chill values as low as minus 11.
Thursday will dawn partly sunny with a two-out-of-ten chance of a snow shower in the afternoon, Morrin said. The high on Thursday will only reach 20 degrees, with wind chills as low as minus 11.
Frosty temperatures will blanket all of Long Island and New York City equally, according to the NWS. "It's an equal opportunity air mass," Morrin said.
