Massapequa Patch Readers Weigh in on Controversial Rolling Stone Cover

Area residents debate magazine's depiction of Boston bombing suspect.

A Rolling Stone cover has Massapequa Patch readers debating whether the magazine is giving rock star treatment to a terrorist.

Critics have said the magazine's photo of Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnev makes him look no different from the rock stars who usually grace the front of the magazine.

The photo has outraged some like Ellen Kennedy was outraged by the cover writing on Massapequa Patch's Facebook page,  "Even though it's negative publicity, Rolling Stonemagazine is still getting publicity over this controversy." he urged consumers to, "Hurt them in their pockets for this issue!"

Joanne Fanizza argued that, "Rolling Stone always uses these types of glam shots on their covers, no matter who's on. They did it with Charles Manson. This is their cover style." She said that readers,  "should be asking whether the story is a good, hard-hitting insightful piece about how a foreigner who became naturalized can turn bad."

Stores as Stop & Shop, CVS and Walgreen's have decided not to sell the magazine.

"I am glad that some stores have taken a stand on this, and refuse to sell the issue," said Phyllis Saporito. "Now I just hope all others will follow."

But JOhn G. Olean said, If you want to buy it its your business," adding "This is america choice is king."
