Burger Joints

A burger and fries, a burger and a shake…what’s not to love? Burger joints have graced the U.S. landscape for decades. From films like American Graffiti to the resurgence of burger drive-ins, the all-American hamburger is an all-American classic. Which brings us to the first Patch Pick…

  • The Drive In at 4286 Merrick Rd in Massapequa has become somewhat of an institution for burger lovers on Long Island. Cruise down Merrick Road and you’ll likely see lines of people waiting to place their order at this unpretentious, take-out only hamburger hotspot. There are a few outdoor tables for patrons; the menu is simple and ultra-affordable, and the Double-Double ranks as their signature double cheeseburger.
  • at 5288 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park is another standout on the burger circuit. The first location opened in ’91 in Delaware as Jake’s Hamburgers. Synonymous with juicy burgers and real milkshakes, Jake’s grew it locations and its reputation. They changed their name last year to Jake’s Wayback Burgers – indicative of the fact that they serve up their burgers the way they were made way back when – big, and fresh and juicy in a warm, homey atmosphere. The August Burger of the Month, by the way, is the BBQ Crunch Burger topped with house-made BBQ chips, American cheese and BBQ sauce.
  • The Massapequa on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa is another great destination for a great burger. Its coveted Jack Daniels Burger is always in demand. It comes with their signature Jack Daniels sauce, melted provolone and bacon complete with extra Jack Daniels sauce on the side. Other offerings include hamburger, classic cheeseburger, the Kansas City BBQ Burger, New York Cheddar & Bacon Burger, Southwest Burger and Turkey Burger.
  • Hamburger chain favorites also abound in Massapequa. We all have our favorites among them, including located in the Sunrise Mall, which also has a location in the mall, as well as at 5500 Sunrise Highway, and Burger King,  at 5366 Sunrise Highway.
  • If you feel like taking a road trip along with a trip down Memory Lane, cruise on over to Sonic Drive-In located at 1380 Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon. You’ll feel like you’re in a scene from American Graffiti – pull into a stall, peruse the menu which features several styles of Sonic burgers, press the order button, and a carhop on roller skates will deliver your order. What a hoot.
