Patch Picks: Make Father's Day Fabulous

Ways to Say Happy Father's Day.

This Sunday, June 19th, is a day to celebrate Dads, and show them how much they’re loved and appreciated. The main thing, regardless of your wallet, is to make Dad feel special on his special day. Here are just a handful of ideas to help make Father’s Day fabulous!

  • Every Dad deserves a day off! R&R is on many a father’s wish list this, and every, year. So tell Dad what to do – or rather, what to not do. No mowing the lawn, washing the car, or any other domestic duty. Definitely a good gift. An even better gift - do it for him!
  •  While Mother’s Day is a jammin' day for restaurants, a lot of Dads would prefer to stay home and be the King of the Castle on their honorary day. A free pass to watching the game on TV or chillin’ in the hammock, while a good home cooked meal is made, or a thick steak is barbecued, is sure to please.
  • For those Dads who like to be out and about, Jamesport Vineyards may prove the perfect place to celebrate the day. They will be hosting, from noon to 6 p.m., a Wine, Beer and Oyster Festival featuring estate-produced wines, Blue Point Beer, and local oysters, clams and BBQ. Live music will feature Buddy Merrian and Back Roads, along with special guests Kevin Griffin and Jimmy Flemming. For more info, call 631-722-5256 or visit www.jamesportwines.com.
  • Some cool Dads have never outgrown their fast wheels faddish and loving their cars is still close to their hearts. If the father in your life is a Ford Mustang aficionado, Mustangs at the Beach at the Sands Point Preserve in Sands Point is being held on Father’s Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is a first time Mustang Club of America National Show on Long Island. For more details, put the pedal to the metal and visit www.mustangsatthebeach.com.
  • Just like Moms, most Dads would agree that the best things in life really are free. A word of thanks, a day of rest, an appreciative hug and the three simple words “I love you” are priceless. However you celebrate Dad this Father’s Day – celebrating him with love and appreciation is the best gift you could give him.
