Patch Picks: Preparing for the Prom

Here's some ideas for the big night.

Prom is fast approaching for many of our high school students. While a ton of planning, time and money is spent getting ready for the big night, time is ticking and we’re coming down to the wire on final details…

1)  The dresses are bought, the tuxes ordered. But don’t forget to try them on for a final inspection beforehand. You don’t want any surprises as the limo is pulling up. Check ahead of time to see if you need any final alterations or a last minute dry cleaning! (There are several in the area for a quick fix, , , )

2) Speaking of the limo pulling up, if that’s your transportation plan for prom, be sure to call several days in advance to confirm that your reservation, pickup times and places, and deposit are all set.

3) Beautifying. Ah, the local hair and nail salons will be busy, busy, busy with patrons prettying up for prom. Most young women know how to make their hair and nail appointments in their sleep, but dreaming of the big night may have caused some details to slip through the cracks. If you’re counting on salon time, make sure it’s in their appointment book as well as yours! For guys, a shave and haircut may need to be put on the prom “To Do” list in advance, as well.

4) Amidst the rushing and running, do not, DO NOT, forget to order and pick up your date’s corsage (for the girls) and boutonniere (for the guys). That ranks as a major prom faux pas. Forget the flowers, and you may as well forget the whole thing. Your date will feel badly and you’ll feel worse. There are many fabulous florists in Massapequa (see the Directory for a listing of choices). Among them, at 1025 Park Blvd, Massapequa Park;   at 1079 N Broadway, Massapequa; and, at 1036 Park Blvd, Massapequa Park.

5) Attending to all the details doesn’t have to be a drag. Teens and their parents should enjoy the planning, the excitement and all the preparation that goes into making prom night so magical. The most important thing on everyone’s prom “To Do” list is to have a wonderful, memorable and safe evening.
