Time to Do the Spring Thing!

How you can enjoy the warm weather without staying too far from home.

We officially welcomed spring on March 20th, but the cool, damp weather we’ve had to endure since hasn’t made it feel much like spring at all. Now that we’re into May, it’s finally, finally starting to look and feel like spring has actually sprung. So cast off those winter woes – it’s time to do the spring thing!

TAKE IT OUTSIDE

Warm weather is especially welcome after the merciless winter we had. And although sprucing up the lawn and garden can be hard work, it’s a chore not too many mind doing to welcome spring. If you need to stock up on flowers, pots, plants, top soil, and gardening tools, check out located at 611 Broadway.   at 1040 North Broadway is another great resource for locally grown flowers and plants as well as garden and home decor, seasonal and gift items. If you’d rather leave the landscaping to a professional, give a call at 516-795-7111. They’re right on Old Sunrise Highway and offer residential lawn and gardening services.

WHAT LURKS WITHIN

As tempting as it is to bask in the great outdoors now that the warmer weather is here, inside chores may be calling your name. It’s that dreaded Spring Cleaning time of year, and that means there’s probably some seasonal housework that needs to be caught up on.  While some embrace the challenge for the sheer gratification of a spic-and-span house, others would rather say to heck with housework. For those folks, help is on the way: on 5650 Merrick Road has been in the house-cleaning biz for a quarter century. And yes, they do windows! (516-308-7100)

TAKE A HIKE

A sure cure for the cabin fever many suffered through this winter is spending a beautiful day communing with nature. We’re blessed with right here at Lake Shore Drive & Front Street. Trails there circle the lake and are ideal for hiking. After working up an appetite, park-goers can picnic in the pavilion and take in some fabulous views from the lake that overlooks the Massapequa State Park Preserve.

SPRING INTO FASHION

Spring is perhaps the most coveted season for fashion aficionados. Ah, the colors! The styles! Just pop into the mall or other local clothing boutiques and you’ll see that new clothes shopping remains a popular remedy for spring fever. But what to wear?  Scoop what just some of the experts are saying at www.fashionising.com.

 TOAST THE SEASON

Long Island boasts some of the best wineries there are. And yes, there are enough grapes in wine country to toast the spring season! This is a very special time for vino-lovers on Long Island because, during the month of May, it’s time to "Run for the Rosés"  in Long Island Wine Country. As www.longislandwines.com points out, now is the time to visit participating wineries to sample their new rosés.
