This Weekend: Tobay Beach's First Polar Bear Plunge

Tobay Beach will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” later this month as it plays host to the first ever Town of Oyster Bay Polar Bear Plunge.

Residents from across Long Island are invited to take part in the March 29 event that will raise funds for Special Olympics New York.

Town residents will join thousands of others who take part in New York State plunges, which last year raised nearly $1 million to support awareness and programs for those with special needs.

According to the official site, participants have already raised more than $3,600.

“...The Town of Oyster Bay Polar Plunge provides an enjoyable and charitable reason to begin the beach season early,” said Supervisor John Venditto.

LongIsland.com, Nestle Nesquik, NSLIJ Syosset Hospital, Sam Ash Music Corp., and 106.1 WBLI have partnered with the Town for the event.

The Tobay Plunge will kick off at 11:30 a.m.

Every “plunger” that raises $125 will receive an official sweatshirt and will be eligible for more prizes with more donations.
