What's Open and Closed for Columbus Day 2013

Monday is a federal holiday.

Monday is Columbus Day, which commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in the Americas. It is a federal state and local holiday.

Here's a look at what's opened and what's closed:

  • Massapequa Public schools are closed.
  • The Massapequa Public Library is closed.
  • All federal, state and local government offices are closed, including the Department of Motor Vehicles and the county courts.
  • There is no U.S. Postal Service delivery.
  • Town of Oyster Bay offices are closed, but many town parks and public facilities, including the ice rink in Bethpage, are open. 
  • Sanitation pickup is normal.
  • Village Hall in Massapequa Park is closed.
  • Some banks are closed, but have the option to stay open.
  • The Long Island Rail Road generally operates on a normal schedule on Columbus Day.
