Eddie's on the Money at Burns Park

Rock legend Eddie Money wows the crowd during the Town of Oyster Bay's latest Music Under the Stars event.

The Music Under the Stars series continued at John J. Burns Park Tuesday night with a performance by one of pop music's biggest and most enduring stars- Eddie Money.

Born in Brooklyn in 1949 but raised on Long Island, Money's triumphant concert was not only a homecoming of sorts, but also a retrospective of the singer's many chart-topping hits throughout his career, spanning over 30 years.

"It's good to be home," Money told the thousands in attendance at Burns Park. "Best Italian food in the world, right here in Long Island...I've already gained 11 pounds since I've been back."

Although now 62 years old, you certainly couldn't tell it from the energy and enthusiasm Money displayed when he took the stage at dusk. Backed by the Eddie Money band, a group consisting of bass, guitar, drums, and keyboards, Money immediately launched into several of his classic hit songs, such as "Walk on Water," "Two Tickets to Paradise," and "Take Me Home Tonight."

Money also made a point of informing the audience that he was signing concert t-shirts that night for those serving in the armed forces.

"This is not about me," he said. "This is about the men and women still in uniform in Iraq and Afghanistan...so many young men and women from Long Island, serving their country so proudly."

Money and his band rocked hard into the night, driving the gathered locals wild with anticipation of which of his memorable songs he would treat them to next.

Brenda Fairlaine of Farmingdale was at Burns Park that evening to relive some of the music that shaped her youth.

"I love Eddie Money growing up in the 80's," she said. "I listened to her album Can't Hold Back over and over to get past an ex who had dumped me in high school. Eddie's the best."

Another person re-capturing their high school days at the concert that evening was Annie Pottsfield of Massapequa.

"Eddie hasn't lost his touch...he's responsible for so many songs that defined my teenage years," she said. "Finally getting to see him live after all this time is just amazing."

Upcoming acts slated to appear at Burns Park as a part of the Music Under the Stars series are Tony Orlando on July 23 and Air Supply on July 30.
