No. 78: Watch Fourth of July Fireworks at Mansfield Park

What better way to celebrate our nation's independence?

One annual American feel-good tradition that almost all citizens universally love is that of Fourth of July fireworks. However, local residents recently almost lost that privilege when the Village of Massapequa Park cancelled their annual fireworks demonstration due to budgetary concerns.

However, not being ones to sit by and allow the patriotic spirits of Massapequans to go un-rewarded, the Town of Oyster Bay stepped in and saved the day, sponsoring this year's fireworks show.

The demonstration, scheduled for Friday, July 1st at 9 p.m. at Mansfield Park, a large, multi-purpose sporting field located at the West end of Walker Street, is sure to attract a record-breaking crowd. Make sure to get here early, because one the park is full, it's closed off to additional residents.

At a recently Village board meeting, Massapequa Park mayor James Altadonna expressed gratitude towards the Town of Oyster Bay for helping keep an important local tradition alive for yet another year.

"We received a call from Town of Oyster Bay supervisor John Venditto," he said. "Through the generosity of the supervisor and the Town, they offered to pick up the tab for the fireworks. So, the fireworks are back on, and I hope everyone comes out, because it's truly a very special night."
