No Rainbow at the End of the Runway for Massapequa Designer

Christopher Palu finishes fourth on reality show.

After a strong season on the Lifetime Network reality show, "Project Runway," Massapequa's Christopher Palu fell short of his dream.

Palu was the first contestant eliminated in Thursday night's season finale of the competition for budding fashion designers.

"Christopher, your collection used prints beautifully, and many of your pieces were true standouts," host Heidi Klum told Palu.

“We do feel that you’re still finding your voice as a designer and we can’t wait to see what you have next. For today Christopher, I’m sorry, you’re out. But we know that you have a great future ahead of you."

Palu's elimination came after a difficult final project where he appeared tired and indecisive as he prepared for the season's climactic fashion show at Lincoln Center. It was part of New York City's fashion week.

He worked up until the last possible minute shortening a romantic gown, when a model had difficulty walking in it.

The gown received praise from the judges, but was also criticized for being inconsistent with the rest of his collection, which was darker in tone.

But Palu stood by his work.

“I’m really proud of what I did, he said. "And I wouldn’t take it back for anything,"

But he also said, "I’m too exhausted to even cry right now."

Palu, who often designs from his Massapequa home, said he hopes an opportunity will open up for him in the fashion industry.

"This experience has been as been amazing," he said.  "I can’t walk away unhappy. Everything happens for a reason."
