Patch Picks: Summer Concerts

Summer is the best concert season, here are some great venues.

With summer now in full swing, what better time to go find a concert. There are several summer concert series in the area, and this week we take a look at them.

  • Music Under The Stars – the Town of Oyster Bay’s summer concert series - goes into full swing this month and runs through August 6th. That means you can catch great musical acts – for free – at several of the Town’s parks or beaches. Most of the concerts start at 8 p.m. and just some of the headliners on this year’s concert roster include The New York Rat Pack and Friends, Draw The Line (Aerosmith Tribute Band), a DooWop Extravaganza,  Dave Mason, Eddie Money, Tony Orlando, the Nassau County Symphony Orchestra, Air Supply, and many others. For complete details and locations, call 797-7900 or visit www.oysterbaytown.com.
  • There are additional outdoor summer concert series performances scheduled at nearby Town of Babylon beaches. Their summer concert series takes place primarily at Tanner Park and spans such acts as Stealin’ Dan, a Steely Dan Tribute band, Mickey Dolenz of The Monkees, Arrival From Sweden, performing the music of ABBA, Who’s Bad, a Michael Jackson Tribute band, a DooWop Show, the Psychedelic Furs and Gary U.S. Bonds. For more information, visit  www.townofbabylon.com.
  • A Long Island favorite you’ll want to put on your calendar is the Great South Bay Music Festival coming up July 15, 16 and 17 at Shorefront Park in Patchogue. The doors open Friday at 4:30 and just some of the headliners are: Kerry Kearney, David Bromberg, and Electric Hot Tuna. Saturday and Sunday’s lineups kick off at noon and feature over twenty beloved local musical acts each day. Concert goers can find refreshment at the brew tent and food court. Various ticket packages are available. More info and a complete schedule of performances are available at www.greatsouthbaymusicfestival.com.
  • The ever popular Nikon at Jones Beach Theater Summer Concert Series continues to rock audiences with a jam-packed schedule of notable names. Coming up this month are STYX (July 11th), Furthur on the 17th, 311/Sublime with Rome on the 22nd, GooGoo Dolls on the 24th, and Aretha Franklin on the 27th. For info and ticket availability, check out www.jonesbeach.com.
  • The Nassau Coliseum, another favorite musical venue anytime of year, will welcome Rihanna on the 19th of this month, New Kids on the Block/Backstreet Boys on the 29th, and Britney Spears on August 2nd. For information and ticket sales, go to www.nassaucoliseum.com.
