Photo Tour: Tobay Beach

The perfect hideaway for area residents.

Many people have spent time at Jones Beach on Jones Beach Island.  It's a hot spot for summer fun and enjoyment on Long Island.  Did you also know that there is an excellent restricted-access use beach on Jones Beach Island?  Tobay Beach is the name of this oasis.  It is limited to residents of the Town of Oyster Bay. Interestingly, Tobay is an acronym for the Town of Oyster Bay.

To get to Tobay Beach head down one of the many roads to access Jones Beach Island.  Once you reach the Jones Beach Clock Tower traffic circle start to follow the signs for the Ocean Parkway.  About four miles after leaving the traffic circle you will see signs for Tobay Beach.  Keep in mind you are heading east when leaving the traffic circle but need to take one of the u-turns to head back west to access the parking lot of Tobay Beach.  Residents pay $10 for daily access and $50 for a seasonal pass.

Once at the beach you have to decide whether you'd like to wade in the calmer waters of South Oyster Bay or the Atlantic Ocean.  From the Tobay Beach parking lot there is access to both of these beaches.  If you have kids, they would enjoy the beach but they might also enjoy the awesome and huge children's spray park and traditional playground.  Adults can even use the Tobay Beach area to get into shape.  There are paths to walk and run and the bay is great for kayaking.  If you're not interested in working out, Tobay Beach is much less crowded than its neighboring beaches, so everyone can find their own personal space, throw on the iPod and chill.

After spending time in the sun and building up an appetite - have no fear, there are choices  to eat here too.  There are many refreshment and food stands and even a restaurant right on the South Oyster Bay.  Town residents are lucky indeed, there is even a 150 slip marina for transient boat traffic.

Any way you look at it, Tobay Beach is a great way to spend a day or a season. Pack the beach bag and suntan lotion and see you at the beach!  If you need to contact the beach and marina directly, they can be reached at 516-679-3900.
