Construction to Affect LIRR Service in Massapequas

Three trains cancelled beginning Monday.

Rush hour trains to and from the Massapequas will be affected by construction work the Long Island Rail Road is conducting in Queens over the next few weeks.

THe LIRR is building a concrete track slab that they say will allow contruction in ther East River tunnels to proceed without affecting their service. But from now until Aug. 16, there will be some service changes.

Two afternoon rush hour trains and one morning train will be impacted on the Babylon Branch which serves the Massapequa and Massapequa Park stations.

The following afternoon trains from Penn Station will be temporarily cancelled:

  • The 6:05 p.m. train from Penn Station to Wantagh. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:10p.m. train from Penn Station to Freeport, which will be extended to make added stops at Merrick, Bellmore and Wantagh.
  • The 6:33 p.m. train from Penn Station to Babylon. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:36 PM train from Penn Station to Wantagh, which will be extended to make all local stops to Babylon.
There will be one train heading to Penn Station that will be temporarily cancelled:

  • The 8:10a.m. train from Freeport to Penn Station. Customers will be accommodated by the 7:37 a.m. train from Babylon, which will make added stops at Freeport (8:04 a.m.), Baldwin (8:07 a.m.) and Rockville Centre (8:10 a.m.)
