Gouging or Government Interference

A Massapequa gas station is being sued by the state for price gouging after Sandy. The owner insists it was a communication issue that was quickly fixed. What do you think?

The state attorney general says a Massapequa gas station was involved in price gouging in the days after hurricane Sandy.

But the manager of the BP on North Broadway has a different story.

The state attorney general announced this week they were suing BP, claiming they increased the difference between retail and wholesale prices by 51 percent in the days after the storm. Three other stations around the state face similar suits.

The station manager acknowledged he raised the price, but said he had trouble communicating with BP management after the storm and based his price on other prices he saw in the area. Later in the day, he said  he was able to communicate with the company and dropped the price.

We want to know what you think.  Should the station be on the hook for price gouging or is this a case of unreasonable interference by the government.
