A new suit filed by the Town of Oyster Bay is seeking to shut down a popular South Shore bar.
The suit claims Smuggler Jack's in Massapequa has violated town code by allowing outdoor dining and drinking, improperly using boat slips, and allowing 115 people inside when their limit was 72, according to Newsday. The suit also alleges that the bar encourages higher boating traffic and allows motorboats to idle. The Nassau County Department cited the bar Monday for improper maintenance of garbage and food prepping, said the report.
Smuggler Jack's attorney, Edward Ross, called the Town's allegations "outrageous" but said they are trying to resolve the dispute, said Newsday. While they agreed to cut music and outdoor seating at a certain hour, they reportedly went against the stipulations later on.
Whose side are you on in the debate? Do you think Smuggler Jack's is a good neighbor? Should they cut off music and outdoor activities or should that be expected with a waterside bar in the summer? Vote in the poll above and tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
