Refurbishment Project At Huntington Hilton Complete

Melville-based hotel features updated rooms and public spaces with new steakhouse slated for later this year.

A $16 million renovation project of The Hilton Long Island/Huntington in Melville is now complete.

Described by the hotel owners as a “total makeover,” the 304-room Hilton now features upgraded hotel rooms, new corridors and public spaces, and the addition of a new lobby and restaurant. A new steakhouse is planned to open in the fourth quarter.

“In this recent extended economic downturn, many hotels struggled to maintain brand standards and their competitiveness due to the lack of financing, causing a downward spiral,” said Murray Dow, chief executive officer of The Dow Hotel Company, one of the Huntington Hilton’s co-owners. “As the hotel economy recovers, many of these hotels are being acquired to breathe new life into them. This is creating more jobs and providing hotel guests with a much higher quality hotel experience.

Dow noted that the Huntington Hilton is the third major turn-around project for the company in 2012.

“The key is to renovate smartly in sync with local market demands and reposition the hotel to attract both former and new guests,” he said.

The renovation included virtually all aspects of the hotel’s interior. The lobby was completely made over and now boasts a brand new front desk and state-of-the-art business center, as well as upgraded high-speed Internet service.

All guest rooms, suites and corridors were enhanced to include new carpeting, bedding, beds, furniture and artwork. Additionally, the executive lounge was upgraded to incorporate a private business center, specialty coffee offerings and a fresh new look.

Also, the hotel’s ballroom and meeting space have been updated with enhanced Internet connectivity for meetings along with new carpeting, wall coverings and lighting. The Hilton can accommodate groups and social events ranging from five to 1,200.

Later this year, Dow is planning to open Masterson’s, a restaurant that will feature locally grown ingredients, prime meats and local seafood.
