If you use forklifts in your facility, you acknowledge that (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) OSHA asks for them to be inspected before use. But what does OSHA truly require?
The federal agency demands for daily review of forklifts are in accordance with 1910.178(q)(7). But, OSHA doesn’t require that the day by day forklift inspections be documented. Business owners are encouraged, but not required to determine the length of powered industrial truck testing record retention. (Reference: 2/7/2000 OSHA Letter of Interpretation) Even though OSHA doesn’t require daily inspections, enforcing forklift review checklists, either scripted or electronic, is beneficial for two reasons:
- Guarantees that all important characteristics of the vehicle are inspected habitually; and
- Allows evidence to an OSHA examiner that the vehicles are being inspected as needed.
