Dec. 7: A Date Which Will Live in Infamy Edition

What's happening in and around Massapequa.

It is Tuesday, Dec. 7,  2010. It's also the anniversary of one of the most important days in American history and that's one of the things we're spotlighting as part of "Five Things You Need to Know Today." Each day, we take a look at events and happenings in and around the area that we think you ought to know about. We are asking for your help too.   • Drug Free Massapequa: An organization dedicated to stamping out narcotics in our community,  will hold its Monthly meeting at  Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. Among the speakers scheduled to appear are representatives from the Nassau County Police Department and
  • Toy Drive: The National Junior Honor Society at Massapequa High School's  is sponsoring a toy drive this week. Toys may be dropped off in the school's front lobby.
  • Library Babies Program: The Massapequa Public Library Central Avenue Branch will be holding "Massapequa Babies II" a program for infants 0 to 17 months.  Pre-registration is required, the program begins at 10 a.m. 
  • Track and Field: The Massapequa High School Boys and Girls Varsity track teams will take part in a crossover meet at St. Anthony's High School beginning at 6:30 p.m.
  • Pearl Harbor Day: Finally, we would be remiss if we didn't acknowledge what President Franklin D. Roosevelt called "a date which will live in infamy."  Tuesday is the 69th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor that led to U.S. involvement in World War II. More than 2,400 service members lost their lives in the attack and today we remember them all.
