Aug. 2: Coliseum and Concert Edition

What's happening in and around Massapequa.

It's Tuesday of what's already been a busy week.

On Monday we saw a vote on the debt ceiling in Washington D.C. and a "No" vote by county residents to a proposal that would have a new Nassau Coliseum.

Well we're not letting up on Tuesday.  We have yet another concert and a chance to root on some Massapequa Little Leaguers, if you're willing to take a long road trip.

  • Coliseum Vote: The $400 million refferendum which would have allowed for the construction of a new arena and a minor league baseball park, was voted down Monday. The vote means an uncertain future for the New York Islanders, whose lease at the Nassau Coliseum runs out in 2015. 
  • Tenor Concert: You don't need to go to Italy or Ireland to hear great tenors. We have a few of them in the New York area too and three of them will be on display Tuesday at as part of the "Music Under the Stars" series. Andy Cooney, Michael Almante and Daniel Rodriguez will perform at 8 p.m.
  • Little League: The state champion Massapequa Coast League 9 and 10 year-olds got in the win column over Delaware Monday night as they played in the Eastern Regional Tournament in Cranston RI. They take on the Pennsylvania champions at 5 p.m.
  • Babysitting Workshop: If you're a teen, who's looking for a babysitting job, you can probably improve your chances by attending this program Tuesday at the You can learn about babysiting and first aid at 2 p.m. It's for ages 12 and up and there is a $5 registration fee.
  • PJ Story Time: Over at the , your youngster can hear a story just before bedtime. It will be in the childrens room at 7:30 p.m. for kids three and up.
