Crime Nearby: Hit and Run Arrest in Huntington Station

The following information was supplied by the Nassau and Suffolk County Police Departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Huntington Station

Police Wednesday arrested a Huntington Station man who they say killed a pedestrian in a Jan. 1 hit-and-run crash on New York Avenue.

According to , William Koziatek, 45, has been charged with leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash, a felony.

Cesar Gudiel, 46, of Huntington Station was killed while walking in the roadway at 7:35 p.m. near East 21st Street on New York Avenue, according to police.

Northport

• Edward Doughty, 52, from Wyandanch was arrested in Northport on Jan. 19 and charged with being a fugitive from the Atlantic County, New Jersey Police Department.

• Nicholas Duva, 21, from East Northport was arrested at 953 New York Ave. in Huntington Station on Jan. 19 and charged with fourth degree grand larceny after allegedly stealing a necklace from a Commack home on Oct. 21. He was also charged with loitering, seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of a controlled substance after allegedly being found with prescription pills.

Wantagh

On Jan. 12, a complainant received a call from someone she believed to be her grandson. The caller stated he was in an accident and was arrested for DWI and requested money for a public defender. The complainant complied and sent money via Western Union to an address in Malaysia. Complainant later found out she was a victim of a scam and her grandson did not get into an accident.

Lynbrook 

A man pretending to be a contractor stole more than $1,000 worth of jewelery from a Lynbrook home last week, police said.

Lynbrook police said that on Thursday, Jan. 12, a man knocked on the door of a home on Rolling Street in Lynbrook and asked if they wanted a chimney cap, which he had in his hand, installed on top of their chimney. The subject explained the benefits of having a chimney cap at which time the victim agreed to have one installed.

The subject installed the cap on the chimney and then stated he needed to check the basement where the oil burner is located. After checking the oil burner police said he pretended to leave when he said he left the burner off and went back downstairs to turn it back on.  

After about two minutes the subject came back up and exited the residence. Police said the victim then went downstairs and found three rings and a set of earrings missing. The value of the missing items is $1,100.

The subject is a white male, late 20’s, 6’ tall, 150 lbs., thin build, dark hair, olive skin, brown eyes, wearing jeans and a black t-shirt.

Seaford

Anthony Calagna, 17, of Seaford was arrested  and charged with third-degree assault.

David Stoddart Jr, 19, of Loganville, Ga., was arrested at the Nassau County Police Seventh Precinct Station house in Seaford and charged with second-degree robbery.
