Dec. 14: Fire and Water District Election Edition

What's happening in and around Massapequa.

It's Tuesday and it's election day. You read that right. If it seems we just got over midterm elections, you're right. But local fire and water districts will conduct votes for board members. It's one of the things we'll be highlighting in "Five Things You need to Know Today." Each day, we spotlight events and happenings in and around the area that we think you ought to know about. We are want your help too. If there's an event announcement you'd like us to know about, please contact us. 

Here's what you need to know  today: 

  • Fire and Water District Elections: The only contested election in the area will be in the  where incumbent Commisioner Michael Antonucci faces a challenge from John Cassese. Voting will take place at the DIstrict Headquarters 1000 North Broadway between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. In Incumbent fire commissioner Michael Mazzola is running unopposed.  Voting will take place from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Massapequa's West End Firehouse at 515 Hicksvile Road; The East End Firehouse at 5478 Merrick Road and at the Massapequa Park firehouse at 259 Front Street.  In the Massapequa Water District, incumbent commissioner Vincent Guadagno runs unopposed. Voting will take place between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. at the Water District offices at 84 Grand Avenue.
  • Oyster Bay Town Board Meeting: Among the things on the agenda is a public hearing on a state mandated plan for the town to license dogs. The meeting is at Town Hall 54 Audrey Avenue Oyster Bay beginning at 10 a.m.
  • Lockhart PTA: A general meeting of the PTA gets underway at 9 a.m. 
  • Contemporary Book Club: The club Meets at 12:30 p.m. at the  in the Auditorium. They will be discussing "Time and Again" by Jack Finney.
  • Boys Varsity Basketball: The Chiefs travel to face non-league opponent Island Trees High School at 6:15 p.m.
