Elderly Man Killed on Southern State Parkway

Victim, 90, dies in one car accident at Broadway exit.

A  90-year-old man was killed in an accident early Monday morning on the Southern State Parkway, state police said.

The victim, whose name wasn't immediately released, was headed east on the Parkway near the North Broadway exit in North Massapequa at 7:20 a.m.

Police from Troop L in Farmingdale said it appeared that the man may have suffered from a medical condition that caused him to lose control of his car, which crashed into a tree.

He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage where he was pronounced dead.

Lanes on the Southern State were closed for about 90 minutes following the accident.

REALLY and he was only 90 , , , Im so shocked , , Surprised he didnt take a bunch of people with him , , when is DMV going to stop being so polite and put an age limit on driving ? ? ? 80 maybe , , 85 definately , , but NINETY ? ? ? really people , , I'm surprised he can walk - - Sucks he died sure , , maybe if DMV did have an age liit he would be sitting in the back of a car service on his way home , ,

Actually he was able to walk and drive. His age had nothing to do with the accident. How inconsiderate are you that a man died and instead of having compassion for his family your annoyed because of his age and the fact that he was driving. Anyone could have a heart attack or a seizure while driving, age has nothing to do with it. If you want to comment on the driving age take it up with the DMV.
