Feb. 23: We Hope You Like Movies Edition

A look at events and happenings around the Massapequas today.

And the Oscar goes to....

OK, we're a few days early, but one look at Wednesday's happenings in Massapequa make us think about the upcoming Academy Awards.  There's a definite Hollywood flavor to "The Five Things You Need to Know Today," but there's also an important meeting and a big game going down.

Here's what you need to know  today: 

  • You Oughta Be in Pictures: Massapequa Bowl is continuing their week long bowling/movie specials for kids. From 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, you can bowl, get a soda and pizza and watch the Disney film Beverly Hills Chiuahua 2 for $9.99.
  • Mr. DeMille, I'm Ready for My CloseUp: You don't have to bowl to see a movie Wednesday. Just head on over to the Central Avenue Library, where there's yet another Disney film on tap. You can see "The Sorcerer's Apprentice at 2 p.m.
  • Celluloid Heroes Never Feel any Pain: If you're looking for a film that isn't from Disney we can help. Well, sort of. If you stay at the Central Avenue Library for their 7 p.m. they will show a film that's not from Disney, but stars someone often associated with Mickey Mouse's favorite studio. Wednesday. The film is "Charlie St. Cloud," starring Zac Efron as a young man who must choose between the memory of his dead  brother and the girl he loves.
  • Girls Hoops: This isn't another movie, but the Massapequa girl's varsity basketball team is hoping for a Hollywood  happy ending. The Chiefs start the playoffs Wednesday hosting Uniondale. Tip off is at 6 p.m.
  • Special School Board Meeting: The Massapequa School Board is holding a special public session Wednesday. The board is going to consider litigation regarding Nassau County's plan to charge sewer fees to school districts and other non profit organizations.
