Man barricades himself in home for two hours.

A man barricaded himself in a home in East Massapequa for two hours before being arrested for a domestic disturbance Saturday, police said.

Kevin Washington, 43, had been involved in a verbal argument with his wife at 9:50 a.m., when she tried to call police, authorities daid.

He allgedly wrestled the phone away from her and barricaded himself in the bedroom for two hours.

The wife escaped the Soloff Road home and was not injured.

After a two hour standoff Washington was arrested and charged with criminal mischief.  He did not have a weapon, police said.

The police are there to help.

Sorry, I'm at a loss with the reason why the police had to get involved. So he barricaded himself...so? Obviously, he needed a "time out" not time "in" jail. This just sounds ridiculous to me... a "verbal argument"? Isn't that part of life? How else can you argue unless it's verbal?! To me, this is just a waste of taxpayer money. The wife was safe...he was barricaded. I'm thrilled the wife is safe, but why the need to go to this extreme. To me, this is part and parcel of why there is so much stress in our lives today--everybody is so afraid of "offending" someone--even a spouse! Unless the wife was physically harmed, what in the world was the purpose to get the police involved? I hope she picks up her clothes and belongings and gets out. That's the smart thing to do.

Concerned did you forget to read the last paragraph? "After a two hour standoff Washington was arrested and charged with criminal mischief"

Yo concerned- Why haggle over an incident when you were not in the house as a witness. He said, she said... we all "say". Was the police there to witness the crime? Who was crying at the time of the report? Did the wife threaten the husband or was this an ongoing case of emotional abuse, by the wife/and/or the husband? Maybe the wife should leave if she feels uncomfortable. Then he can bring charges of abandonment, now or in a few months when everything cools down. It's lucky for the husband he didn't put up a fuss when the police arrested him. The outcome could have been very different.
