March 17: A Great Day For The Irish Edition

A look at events and happenings around the Massapequas today.

Top of the morning to you and a Happy St. Patrick's Day.  Today we honor the Irish Saint by celebrating the culture of the Emerald Isle.

It's one of the "Five Things You Need to Know Today. So put on something green, shove the soda bread in the oven and we'll let you know what's going on for Thursday.

Here's what you need to know  today: 

  • Irish Eyes Are Smiling: Stay with Patch Thursday and w'e'll tell you where you can celebrate St. Patrick's Day. But we'll give you a little taste here of what's going on.  Thewill be serving up a free corn beef and Cabbage Buffet at 5 p.m. followed by Mark Fox's Open mic. at 8 p.m. at 1029a  Park Boulevard is promising to add some Irish food and drinks to their menu, while is once again holding an adult cooking class, where you can learn how to make Irish dishes. The class costs $69.
  • School Board Meeting: The Massapequa Board of Education holds a public meeting at 8 p.m. in the Board Room.  On the agenda is another budget  presentation on revenue and the estimated tax levy in the proposed 2011=12 budget. There will also be resolution on the upcoming school district elections.
  • ZBA: The Town of Oyster Bay Zoning Board of Appeals will meet at 7 p.m. at Town Hall located at  54 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay.  They will hold hearings related to seven properties in the Massapequas.
  • Blood Drive: will be holding their Spring Blood Drive from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.  inside the auditorium. For more information or to schedule an appointment call 516-798-4607 ext. 304.
  • Officer's Wake: A wake will once again be held for Nassau County Police officer  will be held at the Selden Fire Department at 44 Woodmere Place in Selden. Viewing will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Stay with Patch for details.
