Missing Massapequa Swimmer Returning Home

Raymond Roth was stopped early Thursday morning in South Carolina for speeding, according to reports.

The Massapequa man who allegedly while swimming at Jones Beach is not only alive and well, according to multiple reports, but headed back to Long Island.

Police were informed late Wednesday night that the missing man, Raymond Roth, . Roth's brother had called police with the information.

According to NBC New York, Roth was stopped by police in South Carolina for speeding around 3:30 a.m. Thursday morning.

Capt. Bruce Marx, of the New York State Park Police, said Roth was allegedly driving 90 mph in South Carolina when he was stopped by cops early Thursday. When police checked his license, they saw he was listed as a missing person and contacted authorities in New York.

"I have spoken to [Roth] and he advises that he is coming back and will let us know when he does," Marx told Newsday [paid link].

The 48-year-old Roth went with his son to Field 6 at Jones Beach for a swim Saturday afternoon. By 3:30 p.m., Roth's son reported his father missing.

A four-day search by the Coast Guard and Nassau County Police yielded no results for the the 48-year-old Massapequa resident until Wednesday night when authorities were alerted that Roth was down in Florida.

In the meantime, no criminal charges have been filed, Marx said. Police have not even been able to confirm that Roth was at Jones Beach Saturday, and said relatives' accounts could not be corroborated.
