Question of the Day: Favorite Scenic Spot in Massapequa

Where do you like to go locally to get away from it all?

With all of its hustle and bustle, it's hard to believe that Massapequa has a beautiful, tranquil side as well, ideal for getting away from it all when the pressures of life get to be a bit too much.

From parks such as Marjorie Post, John J. Burns, and Brady, to the expansive Massapequa Preserve, our area has enough raw nature to make for a pleasant diversion from the fast-paced modern society surrounding it.

So, what's your favorite bit of nature in the Massapequas, folks? We want to know what you think. Tell us in the comments below.

I grew up in Massapequa and I think the most scenic spot is the Massapequa Preserve (aka Caroons Lake). You don't have to visit New England for foliage, just go to Caroons during the Fall, there is nothing like it. The lake holds many a memory as a young child skating with all my brothers and neighborhood kids during winter time. Now as an adult, I love walking my dog through the preserve.

My favorite spot is also in the preserve- Mary's Hole. The recent environmental remediation has made the area even better! THe water is clear and you often see snapping turtles, pond sliders, carp and bullfrogs. My family walks back along the trails through the woods- it feels like you're upstate.
