There's no better time to remember those in need than the holiday season. There are many opportunities to give in the Massapequa area and many phemomenal organizations doing the work. Here's a look at some organizations collecting donations.

service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan are not forgotten during the holidays. Their in-demand items are: toothbrushes, toothpaste, beef jerky, cookie tins, gum, snacks, granola bars, moist wipes, sunscreen, non-perishible snacks, magazines, hygiene items (travel size) and letters and cards.
Since 2004, the organization has shipped over 30 tons of
goods worth $360,000 and sent about 16,000 letters and cards from school
children. Donations are accepted every Saturday 9:00 a.m. until noon at the at 2 East Gate Road in Massapequa Park.

The Toys for Tots charity toy drive sponsored by the United States Marine Corps has two drop-off locations in the Massapequa area. 5520 Sunrise Highway, and 5214 Sunrise Highway. They are taking donations of new unwrapped toys for the annual toy drive until Dec. 24. Toys for Tots is a nationwide toy drive is designed to give needy children in the community a toy-filled Christmas experience.
5234 Sunrise Highway, Massapequa Park is taking part in the New York Cares annual coat drive on Saturday Dec 11. Customers who donate a new or slightly used coat between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. will receive a 20 percent credit toward off their total purchase during that time. New York Cares, a city-based non-profit organization, started the coat drive early this year on November 15 and will collect coats until December 31. Last year, the charity collected 58,000 coats for needy families. This year the goal is to collect 100,000 coats.
ABC's Good Morning America, and non-profit organization One Warm Coat is still collecting new or gently used coats in Burlington Coat Factory locations all over the nation. The Massapequa area location of Burlington Coat Factory is at 530 Sunrise Highway and will give customers donating a coat 10 percent off of their purchase that day. The coat drive has raised over 800,000 coats nationwide since 2007.
Massapequa Public Schools is still collecting coats for its coat drive at 50 Carmen Hill Road, until Dec. 23.
