I would be curious to know what the property taxes are for the 130 schools NYS school and the 982 schools nationally that came in ahead of Massapequa. I bet they are a lot less. My point being is it possible to run a top school without driving people away or unfairly raising peoples taxes.

I have a question that I would be interested in hearing the public's view on. If Massapequa High School is ranked #132 in New York State, why is it accoring to a 2009-2010 report that Superintendent Sulc is ranked #52 in salary in New York State? http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/education&id=7778676
Mr. Sulc, any comments?

Very true. The funny thing about it is that this is the first year in a very long time that they did not get the blank check like they do every year and they are crying like 2 year olds. Imagine if they actually cut money from their buget. Afterall they are still getting an increase. Wow....maybe you are going to have to really think and do your job. I have an idea for a new reality show where grossly overpaid public figures have to run a private business to equal their current paychecks including benefits. Guarantee 100% failure. No doubt about it.

The question is not to Mr. Sulc, the question is to the school board. If they are offering I don't blame Mr. Sulc for taking. The school board gave him a huge raise when he became Superintendent to the objections of the public, or at least the few at the BOE meeting.

So schools should be run like private businesses? Ok, if your child fails and can't meet the standards can I fire them? Most of you people are extremely shortsighted and out of touch. No solutions, just rhetoric...

Gary, It's about accountability.

when you say elite do you mean the hard working people who have money? it's a matter of labels. youRead More call them elite..they call themselves hard workers. yes, some inherit money. but most of us work for it.
Michael Taustine June 16, 2013 at 09:01 pm
No, it has nothing to do with how hard you work. It's just that the elite one percenters are treatedRead More differently when they run afoul of the laws in this country. No one has been jailed for the corporate malfeasance that resulted in the financial crash of '08, in spite of the rules that were ignored or broken. Too big to fail is the order of the day. Meanwhile, petty frauds committed by poor and middle class are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Two Americas. The rule of law, unevenly applied, whether by race, or class, or economic station will result in the unraveling of society. We may well be seeing the beginnings of that now, as we've entered a new gilded age, where new robber barons are allowed to run roughshod over the lower classes. The very ideals of America are at stake, and we are letting them slide away.

Will the new Massapequa station platform be covered end-to-end as it is now? If it will only beRead More partially covered, like Seaford station, there are going to be a lot of cold, wet, unhappy commuters.
Patrick O'Hara June 12, 2013 at 04:14 pm
Mr. Coyote, The design plans only call for a canopy over certain parts of the station platform, likeRead More almost all of the other stations along the branch. The canopies will be primarily over the staircases, elevator, waiting room, and one other small section on the middle section of the platform between the elevator and east escalator.
