The week opened with the arrest of two teens accused of firing a gun on Central Avenue. Massapequans also received some disturbing news about the rise of prescription drug abuse in the area and word came down about drifters breaking into Nassau County homes by distracting owners. The drop in sales at a local BP reminded us of the tragic oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. But Massapequa also showed that they're willing to go to great lengths to help neighbors. We saw the extraordinary commitment of blood donors at St. Rose of Lima church and we welcomed the new Syrian Orthodox church to the area. We were there to bring it all to you and we thank our dedicated staff.
