With Labor Day in the rear view mirror, it was a busy time in Massapequa this week. Students went back to school, many were greeted by new principals and administrators. The Massapequa Chiefs were also greeted by a tough loss on the football field. Election season heated up with the departure of Democrat Dave Mejias from the race for Kemp Hannon's state Senate seat. A scary crash in Rhode Island left a college student from Massapequa seriously injured, while the taxi cab wars in Massapequa Park took a strange turns with the idea of free rides being floated. Despite the whirlwind of activity, residents of Massapequa paused over the weekend to remember the victims of September 11. They were in our thoughts and prayers last week and they will remain there for weeks and years to come.
