Week in Review: March 25 to March 31

A look at the top stories in Massapequa this week.

There was a lot of news about a lot of money this week, but we're sorry to report that none of the cash is coming to the area. But that's not to say the community isn't rich. We saw the generosity of some area residents and some talented high schoolers this week.

Here's a look back:

It was fun while the dreams lasted. Massapequans flocked to area lottery retailers as the Mega Millions jackpot rose to a record $500 million. It eventually soared past $640 million, but when the winning numbers were drawn there were no millionaires in Massapequa or even New York state as Maryland, Kansas and Illinois sold the winning tickets.

We may not have received the money, but we can certainly say we've all been enriched by those who participated in the St. Baldrick's event at Johnny McGorey's. More than 40 people shaved their head in solidarity with 6-year-old Massapequa resident Colin Conaty.

Some talented students at Massapequa High School also gave back as they held a special performance of "Hello Dolly" Thursday, for seniors. The rest of the community got their chance to see it this weekend.

Finally, the issue of the NextG antenna installations in Massapequa Park, was raised again at this week's village board meeting. The Board voted to hire a firm to make sure that NextG is in compliance with all FCC regulations.
