Weigh in on Massapequa Park's New Property Law

The Village has set up stiff penalties for those who fail to maintain their property. Are they too stiff?

Property owners and banks that must maintain foreclosed properties in Massapequa Park have been put on notice.

A new law passed Monday gives the Village more weapons to go after owners who create eye soars.

It allows them to clean up the property and put a lien on it so the owner pays the bill.

It also imposes up to $1,000 in fines for a first offense or five days imprisonment Those penalties can rise as high as a $10,000 fine or 15 days imprisonment if three violations are committed within a five year period.

We want to know what you think of these penalties. Are they too tough, or tough enough to be effective.
