Massapequa's History: Share it With Us

This is a refocus on Massapequa's history, following up on several articles written about our home town last year.

Readers may recall that Massapequa Patch featured my column on Massapequa's history written between May 2010 and June 2011. Each monthly article highlighted a feature of Massapequa's past, ranging from the buildings that make up the Historic Complex on Merrick Road through the enormous physical changes that occurred in the area after World War II.

I took some time off to tend to matters related to the Historical Society and amnow resuming my exploration of our history, this time in the form of a blog.

The aim will be to provide a regular feature, perhaps monthly, perhaps sooner, given the time needed to research and write history accurately and interestingly.

Some articles will expand on previous publications, but I would be especially interested in researching what you would like to read. What interests you about your area's history?

What questions do you have about where you live and what the Massapequas were like, going back as many years as you wish?

What do you remember about growing up in this area and, above all, what information can you provide that can be shared with others? Do you have anyphotos you'd like to share that can highlight our history?

The overall aim of my blog will be to shine as much light as

possible into Massapequa's past, for your current interest and possibly for
lessons that can assist you in the future. I'd like this project to be as much
yours as mine, so please respond with your suggestions and information. I may
contact you for additional information. I think we can all have a great deal of
fun with this project.

I look forward to hearing from you and providing interesting and informative articles.

Thanks for your participation.
