People across Long Island are doing what they can to raise money for important causes.
Whether it's an East Northport boy asking Santa for a prosthetic arm or a rally to help a 9-year-old with cancer, there have been a number of Go Fund Me campaigns started to raise money for those in need.
Here's a look at some featured stories throughout Long Island:
- East Northport Boy Asks Santa for Prosthetic Arm: Christopher Kiezek, 6, who was born without part of his left arm sat on Santa's lap this year and asked for two things: an Xbox and fingers to play it with.
- Sound Beach Residents Rally to Help 9-Year-Old with Cancer: Nicole Phillips LaMacchia from Sound Beach, started the campaign to help raise funds to get Julia Wilson, 9, who has been suffering with cancer a bone marrow transplant.
- Daughter Helping Mother Build Church with Go Fund Me Page: For the past three years Marie Espina's mother has helped to spearhead an initiative of building a new church for the people of Naranjo Dulce in the Dominican Republic.
- Merrick Woman Raises More Than $1,000 for Friend in Need: Michelle Divone of Merrick has started an online campaign to raise money for the medical expenses of her friend who was diagnosed with AIDS.
- Smithtown Girl Dreams of Competing in Miss NY USA: A Smithtown native is seeking local sponsors to help her fulfill her dream of competing for the title Miss New York.
- Ronkonkoma Campaign to Help Dog with Broken Arm: A Ronkonkoma GoFundMe is crowd funding to help a seven-month-old rat terrier puppy named Dozer who broke his arm.
- Go Fund Me Page Aiming for Medical Relief for Philippines Typhoon Victims: After hearing about the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, Soumia Nair, Shirley Hartley and Mayano Ochi, who are affiliated with the non-profit Global Health Alliance Network, plan on traveling to the island nation on Jan. 10, 2014 for two weeks to help provide relief.
- Woman Raising Money for Passion Project in Haiti: An online campaign has begun to fund a passion project for a woman's trip to photograph the people of Haiti.
- Adephi Student Raising Funds for Community Service Trip to Guatemala: Adelphi University student Meghan McQuillan is hoping to take part in a community service trip to Guatemala in March where students will be working with "Techos Para Mis Pais" painting houses for community members as well as working with the FUNDABIEM Company to provide physical therapy and working with the children.
