As we approach Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season, many people look for ways to help those less fortunate than they are.
There are many businesses, charities and other organizations organizing food drives as we approach Thursday and beyond.
Here's a look at some in the area:
Seaford High School: There's still time for parents to send a non-perishable food item to school as Seaford High School's November food drive ends wednesday.
Village of Massapequa Park: Residents are invited to drop off non-perishable items in bins located in the lobby at Village Hall, 151 Front Street. Drop off locations will be also available during the Village Tree and Menorah Lighting on Saturday, in front of Carvel, 1027 Park Boulevard and the Massapequa Park Post Office, 1007 Park Boulevard. The lighting ceremony begins at 5 p.m.
Panera Bread: In support of Island Harvest’s annual Turkey and Trimmings Collection Campaign Panera Bread is among the many Long Island locations accepting non-perishable food items and frozen turkey donations now through Dec. 24. Donation bins have been set up for boxed and canned foods; frozen turkeys can be donated at the counter.
Holiday Spectacular: The Long Island Philharmonic's Sunday concert at the Mitchel Athletic Complex in Uniondale will feature a collection for Island Harvest. Please bring a perishable food item if you are attending the concert.
