Temple Sinai to Mark Sandy Anniversary
Noted actors to do dramatic reading followed by Town hall Metting at Massapequa temple.
Temple Sinai of Massapequa is planning two events to mark the first anniversary of Superstorm Sandy.
Congregants are being invited to Friday's weekly Shabbat service at 8 p.m., which comes just days before Tuesday's anniversary.
The purpose of the service is "not to recreate what was endured one year ago," said Rabbi Janice Poticha, "But to be together in worship, song, prayer which can strengthen our resilience."
In addition to Friday's service, the Temple is also going to host a dramatic reading featuring three noted actors.
Kathryn Erbe of "Law and Order: Criminal Intent," Zach Greiner of TV's "The Good Wife," and veteran actor Harris Yullin, who's appeared in more than 100 film and TV roles will read selections from the Book of Job at the temple from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 16.
Admission is free, but seating is limited.
The readings from the Hebrew poem about human suffering are designed to serve as a catalyst for discussions about the lasting impact of Sandy.
A Town Hall discussion will follow. The Temple is encouraging members to invite members of the community such as neighbors, first responders and medical practitioners.
Temple Sinai is located at 270 Clocks Boulevard in Massapequa.
