Darling Doggies And Cutie Kitties Available for Adoption this Week! 9/13/13

Looking for something exciting to do this weekend?  Why not take a trip to one of Long Island's local shelters and adopt a special dog or cat who would love to become a part of your family!  This week at Last Hope Animal Rescue in Wantagh, you can meet two amazingly adorable pooches named Buster and Brooklyn, and right next door at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, you can meet three incredible cuties known as Zena, Deacon and Shamus.

Buster (pictured) is an almost Basset Hound... something like 86% Basset, 14% Beagle but 100% Love Bug. This goofy guy comes to Last Hope from an overcrowded Kentucky shelter where he was “nothin’ but a Hound dog” and that’s not a good thing there. He’s 2 years old, 45 pounds and determined to love you and everyone else in his path.  Buster seeks out the company of other dogs. He’s an all around good guy who is looking for a forever home.

And you don't have to take a step onto the dreaded Belt Parkway to meet this Brooklyn (pictured).  Brooklyn is a petite Pit who came from Hempstead Town Shelter right next door to Last Hope. This sweetie is 1 year old and 41 pounds.   Poor Brooklyn became one of over 100 Pits and Pit mixes at the shelter, all in competition with each other for responsible, loving homes.   Brooklyn is a super sweet gal who would love to meet you.  For more information on Brooklyn, Buster, and many other wonderful animals available for adoption at Last Hope, please visit their website at http://lasthopeanimalrescue.org/.

Now check out this adorable boxer mix named Zena (pictured...the one with the rainbow bow... I love it!!)  Zena is a beautiful girl, inside and out! She's about 4-6 years old and just loves everyone she meets!   She's very playful, knows how to fetch and loves a brisk game of tug! Zena is a little scared of new people, and her new family may wish to seek a certified professional trainer who can help her accept new experiences and concerns she may have.  Zena would do best in an experienced, adult-only household and should be the only dog in the house.  She's already had some training (sit, down, stay, drop it, …) and walks nicely on a leash. Can't ask for much more....come on, this dog will wear a rainbow bow for you!!

And this next polite little man, Deacon (pictured) is a 7 year old mixed breed, looking like a Shih Tzu cross, would love to go home with you tonight! Deacon is very loving, friendly and respectful of other dogs.  Deacon get a little scared of unusual new things and people, so I may choose to hide behind you.  My adopters will need to patiently introduce me to new experiences that concern me so that I can get more comfortable with them.  Deacon is definitely a tiny shy guy and would do well in a home with adults. While he's not familiar with basic commands, he's eager to learn for a taste of my favorite treats!

And for our feline friends, please allow me to introduce you to Shamus (pictured).  What a cutie- Shamus is a male/neutered 10 year young feline whose owner recently passed away which is why he's at Hempstead Animal Shelter.  He's quite the talker and can't get enough attention.  He's very loving and it just so happens that his favorite hobby is rubbing his head all over people that he likes.  Shamus is neutered, up to date on all vaccines and is FIV/FELV negative.  Shamus has many more years of living and loving to do- let him prove it to you, take this handsome fella home with you today.
