Successful Pit Bull Event Recap and Great Pets Available for Adoption This Week!

With October coming to a close, I’m excited to report that Long Island really did a great job celebrating National Pit Bull-Awareness Month.  Last weekend, the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter and Last Hope Animal Rescue planned a very successful event known as the 3rd Annual Bully Brigade where many Pit and Pit mixes found their forever home.  What a great way to celebrate such a wonderful, yet misunderstood breed.  Congratulations to all the volunteers who made the event such a success, and to the dogs and their new owners who are starting their new lives together!  Please check out some pictures of the event.

Now let’s keep up the good work and allow me to introduce you to some great animals available for adoption this week…

The TOH Animal Shelter has some great dogs just like Dodger available for adoption right now!  Dodger, aka Mr. Personality (pictured), is a 1 ½ year old, ebullient charmer who loves everyone that he meets.  He’s very fond of cats, displays the charm and social skills of a cruise director among fellow dogs, is housetrained, and while he is great in his crate, he is even happier when he can lie by a person’s side, occasionally getting pets. Dodger, who also has “fantastic kisser” on his resume,  has only one thing going against him, and it’s not his fault—he has been in a shelter for a year of his incredibly short life. Dodger will make someone the happiest dog owner, returning their love with a long lifetime of devotion. Please, won’t you allow Dodger to live his glorious life out of his kennel and in the world? He is guaranteed to make it a better place.

Another “must-meet” cutie is this handsome guy named Gunther (pictured).  Gunther came in to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter as a stray in March of 2012.  Playful and friendly, he made friends quickly with the staff and volunteers as he waited patiently for a forever home.  But, alas, in that time, he has developed hip dysplasia and arthritis in his stifles which is treated by taking periodic short walks to help him retain his strength without causing arthritic flair ups.  Dogs like Gunther take refuge at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter until they can find the loving forever home that they deserve…why not make that home yours?

How about a celebrity dog?  Next up, meet Honeybee (pictured).  Honeybee is a 6 year old Cane Corso just waiting to be discovered… and it won’t be long because this gal is so sweet and well mannered, that she is often brought to special adoption events and even has an upcoming magazine story coming out!  Honeybee is a great traveler, enjoys meeting people and dogs, loves toys and will be happy to play an exciting game of fetch.  Honeybee would love to bee your honeybee, so go check her out at the TOH Animal Shelter today!

And right next door at Last Hope Animal Rescue are adorable cuties who would love to meet you… First up, a handsome 1 year old Cattle Dog/Beagle mix named Macinstosh (pictured).  Adorably named, Macintosh is a very agreeable pooch with an “apple-shaped” physique. He comes to Last Hope from a North Carolina shelter and can’t wait to find his forever home. This little guy longs to be the apple of that special someone’s eye. Might that someone be you?

Okay, so how about a kitty??  Just try staring into Joey’s green eyes and not running out and adopting him today!  Joey (pictured), about 3 years old, is a very friendly and mushie kind of kitty that LOVES people!  As you can see, he was just so happy when the photographer came by that he immediately rolled over with his belly up purring away making happy feet in the air!  Since Joey was rescued by Last Hope from a bad situation, he can’t wait to find his Best Friend Forever!

Have a safe and Happy Halloween- be sure to keep your pets secure and safe during the holiday… and remember:  Don’t shop- adopt!
