Former St. Rose of Lima Pastor Passes Away.

Msgr. Dan Hurley served as a priest for more than half a century.

Msgr. Dan Hurley, a long time priest at St. Rose of Lima Church, who served as their pastor for 13 years, died last week, church officials said.

Hurley had been ill and hadn't celebrated mass at the church since November after he suffered a fall. He succumbed to pneumonia on Feb. 15. Msgr. Hurley was 79.

The popular priest known as "Father Dan," went to school in Oyster Bay and attended Cathedral College in Brooklyn and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington.

He was ordained a priest in 1959 and was assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park.

After a stint as pastor at St. Raphael's in East Meadow, he became pastor at St. Rose of Lima in 1995.

He remained in that capacity until 2008 and stayed on as administrator when the church's current pastor Rev. Ken Zach went on sabbatical. Church officials said Msgr.

Hurley never retired, and celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest in 2009.
