Former St. Rose of Lima Pastor Passes Away.

Msgr. Dan Hurley served as a priest for more than half a century.

Msgr. Dan Hurley, a long time priest at St. Rose of Lima Church, who served as their pastor for 13 years, died last week, church officials said.

Hurley had been ill and hadn't celebrated mass at the church since November after he suffered a fall. He succumbed to pneumonia on Feb. 15. Msgr. Hurley was 79.

The popular priest known as "Father Dan," went to school in Oyster Bay and attended Cathedral College in Brooklyn and Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington.

He was ordained a priest in 1959 and was assigned to Our Lady of Lourdes in Massapequa Park.

After a stint as pastor at St. Raphael's in East Meadow, he became pastor at St. Rose of Lima in 1995.

He remained in that capacity until 2008 and stayed on as administrator when the church's current pastor Rev. Ken Zach went on sabbatical. Church officials said Msgr.

Hurley never retired, and celebrated his 50th anniversary as a priest in 2009.

Fr. Dan was such a huge asset for the St Rose Parish and the commmunity at large. He has made us better Christians and made Massapequa a better place to live, work and raise family. GOD Bless him, may he rest in peace. We love you Fr. Dan!

Father Dan was truly a man of God. I have never encountered another priest that can always make me feel like he is talking to me every Sunday! No matter what his homily was about, it spoke to me and gave me direction week after week. I moved out of state 4 years ago and the one thing that I really missed was mass at St Rose with Father Dan. He was a blessing in my life, my husbands life, the lives of my children and of anyone that ever had the pleasure of making his aquaintance. He will be sorely missed. God speed to you Father Dan.

Rest in Peach Father Dan. The love the St. Rose community had for you was evident by the attendance of so many you have touched at your Mass of Transferral and your Funeral Mass. May God Bless your family.
